Volleyball camps set
The Fairfield summer volleyball camps are opening this month with another to follow in August. Registration is still open for the camps.
Two camps will run June 17-21, including one for girls going into fourth and fifth grades and another for girls who will be in sixth through eighth grades.
The youngest camp will be held from 3-4 p.m. all week and costs $20 per student. The middle school camp, which costs $40, runs 1-3 p.m. all week. Camp fee includes a T-shirt.
The high school camp is open to girls in grades 8-12 (as of the 2013-14 school year) and is set for 8:30 a.m. to noon Aug. 5-9. Cost is $50 and also includes a camp T-shirt.
All camps will present an opportunity for instruction in a technique-oriented practice setting. The skills of passing, setting, hitting and serving will be emphasized in drills involving individual and team concepts.
Also, general knowledge of rules, terminology and rotation procedures will be shown in the youngest camp, which will include daily prizes.
Fairfield High School head volleyball coach Nancy Diers will direct all three camps with assistance from her coaching staff. The camps will be held at FHS Gymnasium.
