Ward starts first game for Hamilton College
CLINTON, N.Y. — Fairfield High School graduate Serena Ward dropped in seven points in her first collegiate start for Hamilton College, a 42-31 loss to SUNY Oswego, Tuesday in Clinton, N.Y.
Ward, a rookie guard/forward, led the Trojan basketball team in scoring in her junior and senior high school seasons. She finished with 13.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game last winter.
In Tuesday’s game, Ward’s teammate Eliza Howe scored all 10 of her points in the second half and pulled down seven rebounds for the Continentals (0-3 overall). Madie Harlem finished with eight points, nine boards, three assists and two blocked shots.
There were five ties and neither team led by more than five points in a low-scoring but tight first half. Oswego seized the lead for good with an 11-0 run that started right before halftime. The Lakers led 20-18 at the break and proceeded to score the first eight points of the second half.
The Lakers have held all three of their opponents under 40 points. The Continentals still lead the all-time series, 16-8. The last time these teams met was in 2008-09.
Hamilton travels to Union College for another non-conference game Wednesday.
