Washington County Attorney Brock’s settlement disapproved
WASHINGTON, Iowa (GTNS) – A settlement worked out between the Iowa Public Information Board office and Washington County Attorney Larry Brock was disapproved by the IPIB during a board meeting in Des Moines on July 10.
The settlement concerns a request for records by Bob Bellmer, former Washington County park ranger, who was dismissed from his job on Jan. 27.
According to the settlement, Brock agreed to be assessed damages of $100, payable to Washington County. He also agreed to complete a minimum of three hours of remedial training, preapproved by the staff of IPIB.
Margaret Johnson, deputy director of the IPIB, said that a motion to approve the settlement died for the lack of a second during the July 10 meeting. She said there was “a lot of conversation that went on” before the board approved a motion to disapprove the settlement.
Brock has a right to a hearing on the charges and understands the hearing is currently set for Aug. 21, 2014.
During a telephone conversation with Johnson, Friday afternoon, she said that the Washington County Conservation Board will received training on Iowa’s open meetings and open records laws beginning at 4 p.m. Aug. 12, at the Conservation Education Center in Marr Park. The public is welcome to attend.
