What a doll!
Vicky Hoskin of Farmington won the doll dressing contest sponsored by Gianna and Roy Barrow June 8 during the Civil War Experience in Bonaparte. Winning allows Hoskin to keep her doll, but she has donated it to be sold at the doll auction during the Van Buren Scenic Drive weekend in October in Bonaparte. Proceeds from the auction are donated to Bonaparte Main Street for the Civil War Experience. The doll, dressed in a green riding costume, won the most votes, with the public voting by quarters. The contest collected $250, which has been donated to Bonaparte Main Street. The doll was presented with a sash reading “Miss United States.” Second place went to Gale Lofgren of Burlington, whose doll was dressed as an ice skater and awarded Miss Union States. Third place went to Doris Strait of Keosauqua with her doll dressed in brown satin with pintucks and pleats as Miss Confederate States. Miss Congeniality was selected by Gianna Barrow and went to Bonnie Wilson of Bonaparte, with her doll dressed in blue homespun with detachable sleeves and all the appropriate layers.
