Wilma L. Swanson
Wilma L. Swanson, 93, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of Lockridge died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Park Place Elder Living Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lockridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Earl Swigart officiating. Burial will follow in the Lockridge Cemetery.
Friends can call after noon Tuesday at Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. Memorials can be directed to Lockridge Baptist Church, Gideon’s or Lockridge Fire and Rescue. Online condolences to the family can be made at www.murphyfuneralandmonuments.com.
Mrs. Swanson was born Feb. 5, 1921, in Hillsboro, the daughter of Frank and Clara Lee Spray. She married Raymond C. Swanson March 24, 1942, in Memphis, Missouri. He died June 2, 2011.
Mrs. Swanson graduated from Fairfield High School.
She had worked as a cook at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield and later at Lockridge Elementary School ,retiring in 1983. She was a 60-year member of Lockridge Baptist Church serving in many offices. She was a member of the Gideon’s also serving in many offices.
Survivors include: her children, Larry Swanson of New London, Gloria Messer and husband Larry and Robert Swanson and wife Penny, all of Mt. Pleasant, Richard Swanson and wife Kim of Lockridge; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter; two sisters, Erma Spray and Lucille Fillinger; one stepgrandchild; and one son-in-law Wendell Olson.
