Work begins on Highway 1 near Birmingham
Road construction work on Iowa 1 in Van Buren County between the intersection with Iowa 2 and mile marker 14.32, located 1 mile south of Birmingham, will require possible daytime lane restrictions until May 3, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mount Pleasant construction office.
During the project, traffic will be operating in a single-lane pattern in alternating directions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. Motorists will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car.
The open lane has a 12-foot width restriction.
The Iowa D.O.T. reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area and be aware traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
