Worried about crisis house next door
To the editor:
In July, Tenco bought the house at 804 E. Burlington Ave. in Fairfield to be a crisis house. This is not to be a shelter/safe house for domestic violence victims. It is to serve as a location to evaluate and temporarily house people with mental health problems.
The idea is to give law enforcement personnel an alternative to taking people to the hospital in Mt. Pleasant or placing them in jail. As residents very close to this property, we have concerns about the legal and practical aspects of this situation.
Gathering information about this project has been difficult because the people supporting it give different information to different people. In order to clarify the matter, we will be having an informal public meeting Saturday afternoon.
