Yakushev is a fresh and exciting new presence in the piano world, has many awards and honors to his credit and has performed at major venues on three continents. Perhaps his most prestigious award is his winning of the Gold Medal Award at the 2005 World Piano Competition. As part of that award, he toured Ohio and Florida in the spring of 2006 and presented a solo recital at the Alice Tully Hall in New York City in April 2007.
Yakushev’ musical training was at Mannes College of Music in New York.
Last season, Yakushev received enthusiastic critical acclaim and international attention through his European tour, with solo recitals in Berlin, Vienna and Dusseldorf. He also toured Southeast Asia, performing in Singapore and Malaysia. Yakushev is making a return visit to the midwest after a highly successful tour in the 2008-09 season. The Fairfield Concert Association members are delighted to have him return to the Sondheim stage. This time, he is carrying a video presentation, which will appear on a screen, of the paintings which inspired Musssorgsky to compose his “Pictures At An Exhibition.”
