Zumbathon for Fibromyalgia set
The first Zumbathon for Fibromyalgia in Fairfield is set for May 10, with registration beginning at 6 p.m., at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center, with Zumba instructors Leslie Harris, Jason Deprey and Erica Powless.
Proceeds of the event will benefit the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association, which is a leading organization providing support, education, research and advocacy for fibromyalgia and chronic pain conditions.
Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain disorder that affects an estimated 10 million Americans. While it occurs most often in women, it strikes men and children, and all ethnic backgrounds. For those with severe symptoms, fibromyalgia can be extremely debilitating and interfere with basic daily activities”.
Started in 2001, Zumba classes blend upbeat world rhythms with easy-to-follow choreography, which provide effective, total-body workouts.
According to the www.zumba.com website, “A Zumbathon® charity event is a Zumba® Fitness-Party that is open to the public and raises funds and awareness for a selected charity (an organization, individual or community in need). These events can only be hosted by licensed Zumba Instructors who have been granted approval by Zumba Fitness, LLC.”
The Zumbathon in Fairfield is close to the heart of Leslie Harris, one of the Zumba instructors organizing the event, because she was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia six years ago and credits Zumba as one of the things that helped her regain her life.
No experience is necessary to participate in the Zumbathon. It is a family-friendly event open to all members of the community. Participants should wear comfortable workout attire and tennis shoes and bring a towel and water bottle. To support Zumbathon for Fibromyalgia: participate and encourage others to participate in the event; make a financial donation; donate a door prize; or supply advertising.
