IHCC Spring Choral Concert Friday

OTTUMWA — The Indian Hills Community College choral ensembles will present a free spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday in St. John Auditorium on the college’s Ottumwa campus.

The Indian Hills Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, directed by Laura Wiebe, will perform as well as two student-directed ensembles, The Do-Re-Migos and Tono Bella.

The concert will feature popular music from the 1930s to the present. The concert choir will perform Louis Prima’s 1936 hit “Sing, Sing, Sing;” Dolly Parton’s “Light of the Clear Blue Morning,” featuring professor of instrumental music and jazz David Sharp as saxophone soloist; Eric Clapton’s “Tears in Heaven;” a lively arrangement of Carly Simon’s “Let the River Run,” featuring bassist Troy Morgan; Pharrell Williams’ contemporary hit “Happy;” the 1936 song “Teddy Bear’s Picnic;” “Chattanooga Choo Choo” and “Happy Trails.”

The men of concert choir will perform the Skyliners’ 1958 song “Since I Don’t Have You” and the Four Seasons’ 1963 hit “Walk Like a Man.” The women of concert choir will perform “Wishin’ and Hopin” and Peggy Lee’s 1963 song “I’m a Woman.” The Chamber Singers will perform “California Dreamin’” as recorded by the Mommas and the Papas and two Disney songs, “Under the Sea” and “If I Ever Knew You.”

Tono Bella will perform ABBA’s “Take a Chance on Me;” “A Bird Without Wings” by Celtic Thunder and the contemporary hit “Royals” by Lorde.

The Do-Re-Migos will perform “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire; the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows” and “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars.

The ensembles will be accompanied by Emily Wolf, staff accompanist and piano instructor at IHCC.

Area students singing in the concert include: Marissa Greenfield of Birmingham; Tyler Breeding and Ryker Garrison, both of Fairfield; and Niccole Giberson of Packwood.
