Sandquist to provide rural representation

By Jim Flinspach | Oct 06, 2016

To the editor:

Dee Johnson Sandquist was born in Jefferson County and grew up on the Johnson family farm east of Fairfield. Members of her family have lived in Jefferson County since 1886. She is the daughter of Don and Doris Johnson and sister of Doug.

Dee graduated from FHS and Iowa State University and left Jefferson County because there wasn’t a job in her field for her here.

Consequently, one of Dee’s priorities as supervisor is to work for economic growth to keep people in our community and make efficient use of our tax dollars to provide quality services. Dee returned to Jefferson County to help her aging mother and to farm. Currently, Dee and her husband are family farmers and live on a gravel road.

As a former small business owner and entrepreneur, Dee understands challenges that face small businesses. She has over 20 years of leadership experience in non-profit hospitals and knows how to provide quality services within the available budget.

Dee is active in the community and is a board member of Carry on Bags, and the Pathfinders Rural Conservation and Development. She is also a committee member of the Barhydt Organ committee and the Blue Zones project, and serves as organist at First Lutheran Church. She has a master’s degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management from Iowa State University and knows how to prioritize and provide quality services using the available budget.

The board of supervisors is the governing body for the county, especially the rural areas. We need one of the supervisors to live in rural Jefferson County. Please vote for Dee Sandquist for supervisor.
