Fairfield competed in a three-way race at the Early Bird Cross-Country Meet Monday in Knoxville.

Fort Madison joined the Trojans and host school, Knoxville. Fairfield’s boys’ team earned second place while the girls came in third.

Junior Mark Diers was the top finisher on the Trojan side as he placed third with a time of 19:44. The rest of the Trojans finished as follows: Senior Darren Roberts, fifth, 20:33; Freshman Alex Forrest, sixth, 20:34; Junior Dalton Rippey, 10th, 21:04; Junior Dylan Harvey, 12th, 21:18; Sophomore Brian Wilkins, 14th, 22:24; Junior Shane Morrissey, 18th, 22:54.

Also placing for the Trojans were: Freshman Jakob Watson, 24th, 23:28; Senior Connor Ryan, 28th, 24:06; Freshman Aidan Daugherty, 31st, 24:41; Freshman Brecken Courtright, 33rd, 25:11; Freshman Tommy Jones, 35th, 28:34; Freshman Toby Oliver, 37th, 34:02.

Fort Madison’s Aaron Steffensmeier, a senior, won the race with a time of 18:37.

Fairfield junior Ashley Bloomquist set the pace for the girls’ race. Bloomquist broke the tape at 20:53, a full minute ahead of second-place finisher Sierra Howardson of Fort Madison.

Scoring for the Fairfield Trojans were: Sophomore Hailey Pohren-Gevock, 10th, 26:13; Junior Malory Jones, 17th, 30:15; Freshman Claire Epperson, 18th, 31:08; Freshman Devon Duke, 19th, 42:35.

This story was changed to reflect that Trojan freshman Tommy Jones wore Carter Spalla's number, so the place and time that went to Carter Spalla in the original story should have been credited to Tommy Jones.
