4-H Youth Committee kids carnival set

The Jefferson County 4-H Youth Committee is planning its annual pre-fair Kids Carnival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

The free family-friendly event will include the University of Iowa’s Mobile Museum bus, a display of farm animals, games including a cake walk, duck pond and more, the Jefferson County Health Center kid train, vehicles from the Fairfield Fire Department, MidWest Ambulance, Fairfield Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, plus a medevac helicopter.

A $3 meal deal, with a hot dog, bag of chips and a beverage, will be offered.

Prizes will be given. Those prizes include Fair Fun packs, pool party packs and many more items donated by local businesses. Winners must be present to claim prizes. The free tickets for the drawings will be available at the carnival.


Jefferson County Relay for Life garages sales Friday, Saturday

Jefferson County Relay for Life is sponsoring a fundraising vendor and garage sale, as well as citywide garage sales.

The vendor and garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the municipal parking lot at Washington Avenue and Court Street.

Reservations for a 10- by 10-foot spot is $20, with an additional spot available for $10. Vendors must have paid for their spots before Saturday. For information, including a contract and rules and reservations, contact Dawn Bechtel at 919-2209.

The Jefferson County Relay for Life also is sponsoring a citywide garage sale. Those having a garage sale at home can register their sale for $10 and have their event listed on a flyer that will be available at the sale in the municipal parking lot and at the individual garage sale locations. The fee must be paid before Saturday to be included in the advertising.

The individual garage sales can start as early and run as late as the owner wants on Friday and Saturday, but minimum hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The rain date for the sales is June 16.


American Legion Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary No. 47 will hold its bimonthly meeting at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at day at the VFW Hall in Fairfield.

Fairfield Women’s Club reservations due

Fairfield Women’s Club will meet at noon Wednesday for lunch at the McElhinny House.

Information dropped off at The Ledger this morning states reservations are due by 4 p.m. today to 641-693-3068.

Julie Johnston will present the program “Czech Republic,” followed by a business meeting conducted by President Lou Snead. New officers will be installed.

Marshan Roth will serve as hostess, assisted by Alice Merril, Ruby McPhail and Marilyn Fenton.

Due are now payable. Dues remain at $20 and should be paid by June 1. Remittance can be made to Debbie Riepe at 301 S. 31st St., Apt. B, Fairfield 52556.


New Al Anon group begins

A new Al Anon group will be held at noon Tuesdays at New Life Community Church.

The group will be oriented toward parents.
