60th annual Douds Pancake Day set Saturday

Nov 07, 2016

DOUDS — The Douds Community Club is kicking off its new membership year with Pancake Day from 7-10 a.m. Saturday at the Douds Community Center.

Pancakes, sausage, coffee, orange juice and chocolate milk will be served by the men of the community.

Douds Pancake Day was patterned after Centerville Pancake Day, which originated eight years earlier. Either Morris Finney or Raymond Finney observed that successful event while on their greeting card route and suggested it to the Douds Community Club.

Membership in the Douds Community Club is $25 for businesses and $10 for individuals — $5 for those under 18 or over 64 years of age.

Two sponsorship levels are available. An Annual Sponsor receives a membership, listings in the Pancake Day ad and Douds Field Day ad and also supports the Street Light Fund for $120.

An Events Sponsor receives a membership and listings in the Pancake Day ad and Douds Field Day ad for $75.

Donations to the Street Light Fund of $35 per household or $60 per business are suggested.

The Douds Community Club pays the monthly bill for 21 street lights from the junction of highways 16 and 98 through town to the Holcomb Creek Bridge and the annual cost of electricity is more than $3,000.

Memberships, sponsorships and donations to the Street Light Fund can be paid at Pancake Day or mailed to Jim Pedrick at 14006 Highway 98, Douds 52551. To be listed in Pancake Day advertising, sponsorships should have been paid before Nov. 6.

The Douds Community Club has been promoting community betterment projects since its incorporation in 1948.

Original organizers were Stanley Barker, Earl Brown, Bill Carson, Cy Greenfield, Harlan Heckart, Clarence Pedrick, Dale Ratcliff, Joe Salter and Herbert Smith. Current officers are Kenny Gilchrist, president; David King, vice president; Jim Pedrick, treasurer; and Lisa Plowman, secretary.

Monthly meetings are at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday, all community members are welcome to attend. Dues-paying members are entitled to vote at each monthly meeting.
