Supervisors approve contract for bridge work

Jun 27, 2010

The Jefferson County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with Iowa Bridge and Culvert for work on a Vetch Avenue bridge crossing Brush Creek during this morning’s meeting.

County engineer Tom Goff said the roughly $460,000 contract is not federally funded. Although the supervisors will designate a detour during a future meeting, Goff said the most likely route will take motorists on 195th Street and Umber Avenue.

Goff reported the initial survey for paving West Grimes Avenue via a special assessment has been completed. He said a cost estimate and design should be ready by the end of July. If the affected property owners sign a waiver, the project could be let this year, Goff said.

Supervisor Dick reported work has begun to prepare the former Fairfield Clinic for use by the Department of Human Services. Cabinets and sinks in the examination rooms have been removed for sale at an auction, and carpet and wallpaper have been removed.
