Anderson Brothers jazz trio play Tuesday at Sondheim

Oct 16, 2017

Anderson Brothers Jazz Combo, one of the most extraordinary young trios on the jazz scene today, performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sondheim Center as part of the Fairfield Concert Association’s season.

Hailed as “virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone,” by the New York Times, the brother duo are known for their unique renditions of classic jazz songs and innovative original music; they hail from Washington, D.C, and are graduates of Juilliard. The trio is rounded out with a guitar accompanying the clarinet and saxophone.

Peter and Will Anderson have performed with the Jimmy Heath Big Band, Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Village Vanguard Orchestra, Wycliffe Gordon, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Paquito D’Rivera, Kenny Barron, Bob Wilber, and Albert “Tootie” Heath.

The Andersons have headlined at The Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center and the New Orleans Jazz Festival among many others and have performed in over 35 states and around the world.

Peter and Will’s debut release from 2012, “Correspondence,” features Kenny Barron and was listed in Vanity Fair magazine alongside Miles Davis in “Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz.” The Washington Post called their music “imaginatively unfolding in ways that consistently bring a fresh perspective to classic jazz tunes.”
