Annual Festival of Trees opens Friday in Van Buren County

Christmas in the Villages events continue this week in Van Buren County.

The annual Festival of Trees will open Friday and continue through Sunday at the Roberts Memorial Center, just north of Keosauqua on the Van Buren County Fairgrounds.

Dozens of trees, tabletop trees and wreaths decorated using the theme “Oh, Christmas Tree” will be on display and available to purchase in a silent auction.

Several items for “cash and carry” also will be available.

A variety of live music is planned and refreshments will be served throughout the weekend.

Santa Claus will be there from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

The event, sponosred by the Lions Clubs of Van Buren County, runs 5-9 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Proceeds from the weekend benefit Christmas for Kids in Van Buren County.

Also in Keosauqua, Light Up First Street, is planned Thursday downtown, with an evening of lights, treats and holiday cheer.



Christmas in Bentonsport is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with shopkeepers in period costumes, children’s activites, demonstrations, caroling and free refreshments and gifts. Santa and his helper, Jingles, will have treats for children from 2-4 p.m.



Christmas Connection in Bonaparte from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday will include: Breakfast on Main Street from 7-9 a.m. at the Opera House; a cookie walk at the Opera House; and Mrs. Claus will visit the library from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with cookies and craft activities for children.

Christmas in Milton will include a soup supper and bake sale beginning at 5 p.m. at the senior center. A free will donation will be collected.



Christmas in Farmington will feature the Pioneer Home Driving Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Maps for the self-guided tour are available at the Pioneer Historical Museum. Door prizes will be awarded at 4 p.m.

Arts and crafts vendors will be offering their goods from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the EMS building. A Holiday Cookie & Candy Walk also is planned, with the treats sold by the pound. Lunch, including brat burgers, hot dogs and vegetable soup, will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.


The Enchanted Forest Walk continues in Waubonsie Park in Cantril.

Visitors can take a self-guided stroll along the 1-mile graveled trail through the 23-acre park decorated with holiday lights and displays; a golf cart is available by request. The trail includes three covered bridges around a large pond.

The Enchanted Forest Walk is open for visitors from 5-8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 5-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The display is open through Dec. 31.
