Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties

The 2018 silent auction, held annually by The Arc of Jefferson & Nearby Counties at the Greater Jefferson County Fair, was a success again, per booth chairwoman Darlene Vorhies.

A thank-you list of donors of money and silent auction items to raise funds for Camp Courageous camperships will be printed in The Fairfield Ledger. The Arc also held drawings at the fair for two adult raffles, and its annual free drawing for kids.

The raffle winners were Gary Henry of Fairfield, who won the drawing for a weighted blanket donated by Fairfield Area Weighted Blankets group, and Rene Patrick of Walford, who won the quilt donated by Northside Strippers.

Eden Greiner of Richland drew names for the kids drawing, each of the 10 winners got a Burger King cone coupon, along with money as follows: Eden Greiner drew his own name for first place of $5; second place, Kaylee Light, $3; third place, Soren Clausen, $2; and Genni Ross, Josha Eastburn, Tyler Barting, Yvette Clausen, Jaxon Kurka, Gannon Greiner and Clayton Schafer, $1 each.

Over 100 area businesses and individuals donated a total of 181 items for silent auction bid sheets, acquired by Kathy Henry, Linda Hinshaw, Mary Sue Hoaglin, Brian Simmons and Darlene Vorhies. Sharon and Jim Coffin prepared the bid sheets for the silent auction, which raised over $3,600 toward Camp Courageous camperships for local/area individuals who are intellectually or otherwise developmentally disabled.

Two patriotic quilted lap robes, made by Kathy Kitch of Dubuque for the American Legion Auxiliary, brought $60 for the auxiliary, which will be hosting The Wall That Heals at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Sept. 13-16.
