Area blood drives scheduled

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center has several area blood drives scheduled.

Jefferson County PM will host a community blood drive from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cambridge Learning Center on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

Donors who last gave blood on or before July 18 are eligible to give at this drive.

For appointments to donate, contact the blood center at 800-452-1097 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5032 to locate the drive.

Birmingham Lions Club will host a community blood drive 3-6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Lions Club building in Birmingham.

Donors who last gave blood on or before July 20 are eligible to give at this drive.

For appointments to donate, call Harry Anderson at 319-498-4201 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5006 to locate the drive.

First United Methodist Church will host a community blood drive from 2:30-6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the church dining room.

Donors who last gave blood on or before July 24 are eligible to give at this drive.

For appointments to donate, call Melva Dahl at 472-5762 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org and use code 5105 to locate the drive.

Potential donors must be at least 17 years of age, although a 16-year-old, with a completed parental permission form, can give blood. Forms are available through www.bloodcenter.org. Donors must weigh more than 110 pounds and have a photo I.D. Individuals with diabetes or controlled high blood pressure can be accepted as eligible donors. For questions about eligibility, call the blood center at 800-747-5401.

According to blood center staff, blood donation is a safe, simple procedure that takes about 45 minutes to one hour.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is the provider of blood and blood components to more than 90 hospitals in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri and Wisconsin. It is the exclusive provider to Jefferson County Health Center and Van Buren County Hospital.
