Area residents listed as contest winners at 2017 Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES — The 2017 Iowa State Fair has ended, but a few more competition results continue to be posted on the fair’s website.

Yodelers, singers and whistlers took to the stage in Pioneer Hall for friendly competition during the fair. Five-year-old Adrian Green of Brighton placed second in Singing, Ages 5 to 12.

In the 4x4 Stomper Pull contest, entrants hitched certified weights to their battery-operated, handmade miniature trucks to see who could pull the farthest distance in 20 seconds. Fourteen-year-old Willow Elliott of Fairfield placed third in STOCK, Age 11 and Up, and third in BULLY, Age 11 and Up.

In the Garden Vegetables competition at the fair, Michelle Burgmeier of Lockridge brought home several ribbons: Beans — Any Other, third place; Cabbage — Any Other, second place; Eggplant, Purple/White Stripe, second and third places; Tomatoes — Cherry, Black or Chocolate, third place, and Tomatoes — Grape, fourth place.

In the Heirloom Vegetables competition, Burgmeier placed fourth Plate of Mixed Vegetables.

In the Herb’s Herbs and Culinary Herbs divisions of the Vegetable Crops competition, Burgmeier placed fourth in Container Grown Herbs.

In the 4-H Market Beef show at the 2017 Iowa State Fair, Grand Champion Market Heifer honors were awarded to Hunter Lock of Jefferson County.
