Fairfield Art Association opens its 51st annual membership show from 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Main Gallery at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.

For the membership exhibit, artists were challenged this year to use 6- by 6-inch canvases and create original artwork in any media they wanted. Artists also had the option of using one to four canvases to create a single display of multiple works linear in any direction or in a square grouping.

A “Vote for Your Favorite” begins Friday and continues until Dec. 15. The winning artist will receive two vouchers to any Artist Series show in the convention center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts.

A Membership Party will be held in February for all members, and cash awards will be given to four selected artists after judging has been completed. The juror will give a critique of all works at the party.

Forty-seven artists are participating in this year’s exhibit, with close to 150 canvases being displayed. The artists are: Laura Weinberg, Care Connet, Kathleen Almelien, JoAnne Worley, Jessica Kirby, Kathleen Tachet, Karen Harris, Annette Scieszinski, BJ Grimmer, Holly McDow, Susan Bomzer, Ingrid Saterstrom, Carlene Atwater, Phillippa Mecham, Susan Noll Thicke, Pam Lander, Cindy Ballou, Mikayla Lanman, Debbie Finney, Sidney Gibson, Rolf Erickson, Joyce Schindler, Kella J. Opening in the convention center’s Hallway Gallery will be an exhibit by local artist Laura Weinberg. She will be displaying art from her “Visions and Brushstrokes Series.”

Also during Friday evening’s exhibit opening, young artists will be creating a “Living Window” as they paint a holiday scene on the convention center’s atrium windows as part of the Fairfield First Fridays activities.
