Association to help with Food Assistance benefits applications

Feb 27, 2013

The Iowa Food Bank Association will return to Fairfield Thursday to help individuals learn about and apply for Food Assistance benefits as a part of their SNAP Mobile Access Points project.

SNAP is the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and was formerly known as the Food Stamp Program. In Iowa, SNAP is called the Food Assistance Program. Benefits are accessed through an Electronic Benefits Transfer card.

The Online Application for State of Iowa Services is the online joint application for assistance for numerous state programs. Food Assistance is available to many individuals in Iowa, who may not know that they are eligible or who have a difficult time knowing how or where to apply. A recent change in Food Assistance eligibility may make benefits available to many working or older Iowans who were not eligible in the past.

For information, contact Cindy Jones at 319-529-0533 or cjones1@feedingamerica.org to schedule an appointment for Thursday.
