Even though it was a rainy Saturday, more than 160 people ventured out to the Maasdam Barns May 12 to engage in the activities at the Babies at the Barns event.

It was Mother’s Day weekend and there were many mothers with their children at the event – both humans and animals!

Visitors had a chance to explore the museum on the grounds, which showcases many pieces of locally made or locally used antique farm equipment. They also interacted with all types of farm animals: chickens, bunnies, sheep, donkeys, mules, horses, puppies, cows, and a little baby goat.

Some of the baby farm animals were brought in by Jefferson County 4-H members. The Jefferson County Master Gardeners were also on site to plant sunflower seeds with young participants. Other hands-on activities provided by Maasdam Barn volunteers included making their own braided jump ropes, shelling and grinding corn, separating milk and more.
