Basketmaking classes, stroll set at park

Nov 29, 2017

Basketmaking classes and a naturalist stroll, are planned at Jefferson County Park.

The basketmaking days will be offered: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday; and 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Park Nature Center for adults and youth in middle school or older.

Two baskets styles are offered: Mom’s Basket and Cottage Door Basket. Mom’s Basket measures 3.5 inches tall and is 7 inches long by 9.5 inches wide. The Cottage Door Basket is 9.5 inches tall and is 7 inches long and 1.25 inches wide. An opportunity will be offered to add some color to the design.

A registered participant can choose which basket he or she would like to make and the time that works best: during the day, after work or on the weekend. Participants should plan 3.5 to four hours to complete a basket.

The fee is $10 per basket.

Supplies are limited, so preregistration is required. To register, call 472-4421 or email therese@jeffersoncountyconservation.com.

No registration is required for the Naturalist Stroll set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Jefferson County Park.

Jefferson County Naturalist Therese Cummiskey will lead the hike and point out how to identify trees by bark and bud and explain the signs of critters who live in the park.

“There’s always something new to learn and explore,” said Cummiskey.

Participants, dressed for cold weather, should met at the nature center.
