Batavia Days July 7-8

BATAVIA — The annual Batavia Days festival is planned July 7-8, with food, competitions, entertainment and more.

A slow-pitch softball tournament is set to get underway July 7 and run all weekend. For information about the tournament, call Kyle Brewington at 641-777-0688.

A painting class is set for 6 p.m. July 7 at the Batavia Community Building. The fee is $20, and preregistration is required. Call Jaylene Doud at 919-2954 for information and to sign up.

A garden tractor pull is planned the evening of July 7 behind the Batavia BP Station. Weigh-in will be at 6 p.m.

July 8 will begin with breakfast served by Kilwinning Lodge No. 198 A.F. & A.M. from 6-9 a.m. at the Batavia Masonic Lodge. The public is welcome. A free-will offering will be collected for the breakfast.

The parade down Third Street will start at 10 a.m. Randy and Karen Major will be the grand marshals.

Immediately after the parade, the Batavia Fire Department will serve its annual brat-pork sandwiches, plus a vendor and craft fair will open from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. in the downtown area, and the Batavia Library will have an open house and used-book sale.

A silent auction bake sale will be 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. in the Batavia Community Building, with 100 percent of the profits going to The Lord’s Cupboard. Bakers are welcome to drop off cookies, pies, cakes, jellies, jams and other goodies at the community building.

An “All Wheel Show” is planned. Call Larry Doud at 919-2953 for details.

Weigh-in for the Batavia Days tractor pull is at 11 a.m., with the pull starting at noon at the track behind the Batavia BP Station.

A baby contest is planned at noon in the Batavia Community Center.

A kids’ pedal-tractor pull will start at noon in the pavilion. Sign up for the competition after the parade.

Several kids’ games are scheduled after the pedal pull. A nickel scramble, candy dash and pop walk are planned in the pavilion.

And a kids’ painting class, for 5-15 year olds, starts at 2 p.m. in the community center. A $5 fee is payable at the door.

Hypnotist Cheryl Shagen’s show starts at 3 p.m. in the pavilion.

The Batavia Days Committee will host a taco bar, and collect a free-will offering, from 4:30-7 p.m. in the community center, and the Batavia TTT will host an ice cream social from 4:30-7 p.m. in the pavilion.

July 8 events will conclude with a street dance in the pavilion. The Kerri Miller Band will perform from 7-11 p.m.

Those attending the Batavia Days events are reminded to bring lawn chairs.
