The Margaret Wilson Scholarship committee of the Birmingham United Methodist Church met recently to award the scholarships for 2013. Scholarship recipients include; Felicia Giberson, daughter of Amy Giberson and Jon Weaver; Marissa Greenfield, daughter of Wes and Jackie Greenfield; Hanna Kerr, daughter of Mickey and Jodi Kerr; Amber Meixner, wife of Jim Meixner; Devon Ryan, daughter of Graig and Rhuie Ryan; Jonathon Shaw, son of Morrie and Terri Shaw; and Dalton Stein, son of Phil Stine.

Giberson will attend Iowa Wesleyn College in Mount Pleasant. Greenfield will attend Central College in Pella.

Kerr will attend University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. Meixner will attend Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. Ryan will attend University of Northern Iowa.

Shaw will attend University of Phoenix.

Stine will attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

The winners will be recognized at the 9:15 a.m. service Sunday.


The Birmingham Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday.


The Over 50 and Fabulous Red Hat Ladies will meet for an 11:30 a.m. lunch May 14 at the Birmingham Lions building. Barb Anderson and Judy Privia are the committee. A flower and plant exchange will take place.


Entries are due May 24 for the Little Stars and the Prince and Princess contest June 7 at Homecoming.

Little Star contestants must be 2-4 years old. Prince and Princess contestants must be 4-8 years old.

Contestants must have a Birmingham address.

The tulips are in bloom at Betty and Ernie Hinkle’s on West Cedar Street. Hundreds of tulips in many varieties to explore. No charge to drive through.

The Stockport Public Library is having an on-going book sale. Visit the library and check out what is for sale this week, as librarian Beverly Runyon is cleaning out the shelves making room for new books and movies that will be arriving soon. The library also has new books in the adult fiction and western sections.


The Stockport American Legion Auxiliary members will meet at 4 p.m. May 16 at 4 p.m. at the Stockport American Legion Building to decorate veterans crosses for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

A business meeting will be held.
