Bloomquist wins gold at Keokuk

In the Keosippi Relays held at Keokuk’s Calvert Stadium on Tuesday, Fairfield finished runner-up to Mt. Pleasant.

The Panthers tallied 124 points, Fairfield 117, Keokuk 69, Fort Madison 43 and Burlington 37.

Among the highlights for Fairfield, Ashley Bloomquist won the gold in the 1,500 (5:08.17) and teammate Sam Fritz took silver (5:11.57).

Malory Jones and Kailey Kaska each leaped 4-8 in the high jump and tied for first place.

In the 4x400, Jones, Fritz, Kara Jeffrey and Aluna Olaniyi won the gold (4:16.08).

Jada Lippincott took gold in the shot put (36-04).







Weaton, Breen lead golfers

The Fairfield Trojan boys’ golf team was defeated by Washington and Mt. Pleasant on April 20 at Mt. Pleasant Golf Course.

The Demons scored 156, Mt. Pleasant 176 and Fairfield 194.

Jackson Weaton and Collin Breen led the Trojans, each shooting a 46. Also for Fairfield, Zach Steele carded a 50, Aaron Haines 52, Josh Brewington 52 and Tyler Huff 54.

In JV play for Fairfield, Spencer Else shot 55, Carter Ferrel 59.

On Tuesday, the Trojans competed in the Oskaloosa Invite. Fairfield finished in 12th place.

Weaton shot 85, Zack Steele 89, Haines 95, Garrett Ward 98, Tyler Huff 108, Breen 108, Brewington 107 and Else 112.



Soccer team falls to Fort Madison

The Fairfield Trojan girls’ soccer team was defeated by host Fort Madison on Tuesday 1-0.

Fairfield’s record is 7-1 overall, 3-1 in Southeast Conference play.

On Monday, the Trojans rebounded from a 3-0 deficit to defeat host Columbus Junction 5-3.

Trojan Emma Rosner scored four goals and assisted on a goal by Bryanna Popejoy.

Fairfield keeper Kelsey Hollander had 11 saves.

The Trojans host Mt. Pleasant at 5:30 p.m. tonight.



Charoenkul, Price, Beasley win in singles

The Fairfield Trojan girls’ tennis team lost its first match of the 2017 season on Tuesday. Host Fort Madison defeated Fairfield 5-4.

The Trojans (6-1, 4-1 Southeast Conference) won three singles matches. Anatta Charoenkul defeated Katie Larson 8-0, Dayna Price beat Kearstyn Johnson 8-1 and Anna Beasley bested Mercedd Doty 8-3.

Hermela Gebremariam teamed up with Charoenkul to win their doubles match.

Winning JV singles matches for Fairfield were Allison Krumboltz, Lynsey Finney and Amanda Raines.



Michael Fritz wins in discus

The Fairfield Trojans finished seventh in the Ike Ryan Relays at Eddyville on April 20.

Trojan senior Michael Fritz continued his outstanding season, capturing the gold medal in the discus throw with a toss of 137-06. Teammate Tristin Waugh took fourth (116-08).

Among other highlights for Fairfield, Darren Roberts placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.95), Fritz took fifth in the shot put (39-08) and Trenton Hanen sixth (39-04).



Trojan boys’ tennis falls to FM

The Fairfield Trojan boys’ tennis team fell to host Fort Madison on Tuesday 5-4.

Winning singles matches for Fairfield were Navin Martin, Logan Williams and Jarod Willmon. Elijah Parr-Williams won a doubles match.

On Monday, Fairfield whipped host Centerville 8-1.

Among the highlights for the Trojans, Martin won his singles match and combined with Gannon Courtright for a victory in doubles.

On April 20, Fairfield fell to host Mt. Pleasant 7-2. Willmon and teammate Brandon Winkelman each won a singles match.
