Broadway Players earn awards for ‘The Addams Family’ production

The Broadway Players of Fairfield High School will participate in the 2018 Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase, presented by EMC Insurance Companies, in honor of the school’s achievements for its April production of “The Addams Family — A New Musical Comedy.”

Produced by Des Moines Performing Arts as the culmination of a yearlong education initiative, the showcase will be 7 p.m. June 4 at the Des Moines Civic Center and will recognize a total of 68 schools from across the state.

Three members of the Fairfield High School production were awarded Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role and were invited to perform in the showcase. Brittan Bowman will perform an excerpt from his award-winning role as Gomez Addams entitled “Happy Sad.” Jackson Brown will perform an excerpt from his award-winning role as Fester entitled “The Moon and Me.” David Wallingford will perform an excerpt from his award-winning role as Lurch entitled “Move Toward the Darkness.”

In addition, Bowman and Brown were invited to audition for the opportunity to represent Iowa at the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City this summer as part of the Triple Threat Award program.

Fairfield High School also will be recognized with the following awards and honors:

• Distinguished Scene — “The Moon and Me;”

• Special Recognition for Performance as a Featured Dancer — Julia Fritz.

Tickets to the showcase, which start at $15, are on sale at DMPA.org, the Des Moines Civic Center ticket office, and by phone at 515-246-2300.

For the first time, the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Showcase will be livestreamed at Iptv.org as part of a collaboration with Iowa Public Television. IPTV will air a highlights special of the evening later this summer.
