Burlington man’s death ruled  accidental

Feb 02, 2018

BURLINGTON — On Jan. 12, the Burlington Police Department was called to investigate the discovery of a dead body in the basement of 704 S. Central Ave., in Burlington.

The body was identified as that of 53-year old Ricky Dean Wixom. On Oct. 10, before the discovery of the body, Wixom’s family filed a missing person’s report. On Jan. 12, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called in to assist with the investigation.

The homeowner of 704 S. Central Ave. informed law enforcement that in September, Wixom worked on the basement stairs of the residence. Wixom had never been heard from or seen since working on the basement stairs.

On Jan. 13, an autopsy was conducted at the University of Iowa Health and Clinic Decedent Care Center. The medical examiner ruled Wixom’s cause of death to be blunt force injuries consistent with a fall and the manner of death as accidental.

After a complete and thorough investigation, coupled with the findings from the autopsy, Wixom’s death has been ruled accidental.

The joint investigation was conducted by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Burlington Police Department, the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner and the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office.
