Businesses, schools, others close Monday for Labor Day

Monday is Labor Day, a federal holiday, and many offices and businesses will be closed.

Students in the Fairfield Community School District have not yet returned to school for the 2017-18 academic year. The first day of class will be Tuesday.

Pekin community schools are closed Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday is a professional development day. Students return to class Wednesday.

Cardinal community schools are closed Monday.

Van Buren community schools are closed Monday.

City, county, state and federal offices are closed Monday.

The U.S. Postal Service is closed, and regular mail is not delivered on Labor Day.

Fairfield Public Library is closed Monday. The library reopens at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Starting Sept. 10, the library’s hours will be: 1-5 p.m. Sunday; 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and 1-5 p.m. Saturday.

Fairfield’s Roosevelt Community Recreation Center, including the Roosevelt Aquatic Center and the Cambridge SportsPlex, is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. The outdoor pool is open for its final day of the summer from 1-4 p.m. Monday.

Waste Management is closed Monday, and garbage pickup is delayed one day all week long. The routes normally picked up on Mondays will be picked up on Tuesdays; the normal Tuesday routes will be picked up on Wednesday, and so on.

Senior meal sites are closed Monday, and no meals will be served.

The Fairfield Ledger newspaper office will be closed for Labor Day, and no paper will be published Monday.

Other offices and businesses could be closed, and regularly scheduled meetings and activities could be canceled; call ahead to check schedules.
