Cantril festival features alligator wrestling, more

CANTRIL — Cantril “Swampy Stompin’” Dayz will be Friday and Saturday.

All the activities, unless noted otherwise, take place at the ball diamond, but if questions arise, there is an information table at the ball diamond.

The event kicks off Friday evening. A Taste of Cantril Supper, featuring grilled chicken and pork, starts at 5 p.m., with soft-serve ice cream served from 5-8 p.m. Other food vendors also will be on site.

The Danny Hughes/Doc Martin Memorial 31 Tournament starts at 6 p.m. under the tent. No beer is sold, but attendees can bring their own.

An alligator wrestling show will be at 7 p.m. at the old school. Attendees are asked to being lawn chairs.

Also at 7 p.m., the co-ed softball tournament begins, and after a break, will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The rodeo is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at the old Doc Smith property.

Midnight Curtis Oliver will entertain under the tent at 8 p.m. No beer is sold, but attendees can bring their own.

Saturday starts with registration for the Frisbee Golf Tourney at 9 a.m. at Waubonsie Park.

An alligator wrestling show will be at 10 a.m., 1 and 4 p.m. at the old school. Attendees are asked to being lawn chairs.

Also at 10 a.m., kids’ games, including squirt-gun fights, Twister, sports combo, pirate ship and face painting, start. Wristbands are available for the children.

Goofy Faces Caricatures are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration for a sanctioned Kiddie Tractor Pull is at 12:30 p.m., with the pull starting 30 minutes later at the old tennis court.

Soft serve ice cream will be served from 2-4 p.m., and Tom Terrific the Balloon Man will be entertaining from 2-6 p.m.

The Silver Mine will be at 2:30 p.m., followed by registration for the Pig Scramble at 2:45 p.m., with the scramble at 3 p.m.

Villages Folk School will have crafts for sixth- through 12th-graders from 3-4 p.m. under the tent.

Line up for the Swampy Stompin’ parade is at 5:30 p.m. at Waubonsie Campground. The parade, with grand marshals Justin and Heather Chaplin, starts at 6 p.m.

The Twin States Truck & Tractor Pull will start at 7 p.m. behind Cantril Feed & Grain. Admission is $5.

Also, if available, an Air E-Vac helicopter is set to visit at 7 p.m., and a candy-drop will immediately follow.

The Gator Drop is set at 8 p.m. Tickets will be available at the information table.

Tickets for the Stihl Leaf Blower raffle and Gator raffle also will be available at the information table.

Midnight Doug Brundies Acoustic Show will intertain at 8 p.m. under the tent. Beer will not be sold, but attendees can bring their own.

The festival will wrap up with a fireworks display about 9 p.m., which can be viewed from the ball diamond.

Proceeds from the event go to Cantril City Park and Cantril Dayz activities.
