Cardinal gets in the win column

WINFIELD — The Comets’ varsity football team defeated Winfield-Mt. Union 14-6 Friday. After a close 24-12 loss to Van Buren to begin the year, then a blowout defeat at the hands of Southeast Warren, 42-6, the Comets tasted the sweet flavor of victory for the first time.

Cardinal scored both its touchdowns through the air. One was a 24-yard pass from Trey Albert to Kade Chance. The other was a 33-yard pass from Albert to Ben Clark. Albert scored a two-point conversion.

Albert completed eight of 17 passes for 122 yards. He rushed for 24 yards on 12 attempts. Gabe Reyes rushed for 54 yards on 18 tries. Max Betancourt gained 5 yards on the ground, and Chance gained 6.

Chance caught five passes for 60 yards. Clark caught two for 58 yards. Reyes caught one for 4 yards. The Comets host Lynnville-Sully Friday.
