Cardinal homecoming tonight vs. Montezuma

By Justin Webster | Oct 13, 2017

It’s homecoming week at Cardinal and the Comets first-year football coach Landon Miller will have a final chance in 2017 to show his new community what he’s trying to build.

Coach Miller’s team is just 1-5, but they lost an opportunity to beat Danville in District-6 play, and still have their two most winnable games ahead of them with Montezuma and North Mahaska remaining on the schedule. If you count Danville as a forfeit, the Comets are 2-5 and essentially sit in the same situation as the 2016 team that went 4-5 with a win by forfeit.

The difference is Miller is young, and has a lot of ideas on how to build the program up from the bottom.

“People want to see progress,” said Miller. “That is what we will see tonight. We will see if we are progressing in the correct direction.”

Miller also shared that he is implementing seven core values as the new base for Cardinal Comets football. He explains, “Dedication, hard work, grit, citizenship, competition, discipline, and family are the things that guide our work each and every day.” Miller continued, “We also teach the kids to ‘win in the moment,’ and not to focus on any outside factors, but to focus on the moment that you are given.”

Miller’s squad will start with Montezuma tonight when Comet nation celebrates both it’s seniors and Homecoming simueltaneously.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
