Cardinal, Van Buren compete at WACO meet

The Cardinal and Van Buren girls’ track teams participated in the WACO Relays Tuesday in Wayland.

The Comets earned fifth place and the Warriors came in sixth. Mediapolis won the meet with 163 total points.

Both teams did well in the shuttle hurdle relay. Cardinal got second place with the time of 1:14.19. The Warriors got fourth with the time of 1:23.88.

Cardinal’s Jessie McElderry got second in the 200-meter dash, while Sarah Schmidt got fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 14-09.50.

Van Buren’s Courtney Hervey finished fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 84-00. Savannah Findley, Erica Halverson and Jacinta Wenke each got a top 10 finish in the shot put, while Jordan Gire and Brook Dunkin both earned top 10 finishes in the 100-meter dash.

Unity Daugherty, Sydney Atwood, Amber Daugherty and Alison Dickinson each placed in the top 10 of a running event.

The Warriors took home second in the distance medley.
