Cardinal volleyball ends season at Sigourney

By Justin Webster | Oct 18, 2017

Sigourney ended Cardinal volleyball’s season Tuesday night in the first round of the Class 2A Region 5 playoff bracket 25-17, 25-22, 16-26 and 25-23.

The Comets head volleyball coach Jerald Harter can’t hide from the fact that his team is young, but does not concede effort as Cardinal has gained a wealth of experience this season having only one senior on the team.

One concern for Coach Harter towards the end of the season, when his team had lost 11 of 13 matches and only won five sets versus 27 losses, was stopping big runs. Tuesday night in Sigourney, the Comets were able to keep all four sets close, and very nearly won the match in four games, as opposed to losing in four.

Cardinal finishes the 2017 season with a record of 8-22 and is expected to return 12 varsity players, including two juniors in Meghan Fitzsimmons and Madison Guiter. Sigourney will advance to play Pekin in Packwood Monday at 7 p.m.
