Celebrate Grant Wood’s birthday Saturday in Eldon

ELDON — The American Gothic House Center is celebrating Grant Wood’s 127th birthday with a birthday soup smorgasbord from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the KD Center in Eldon.

A variety of home-cooked soups, bread and dessert will be available.

Free will donations will be accepted. Proceeds will support programming at the American Gothic House Center, like the Easter Egg Roll, which is set for March 31.

The American Gothic House is famous as the backdrop of Grant Wood’s 1930 painting “American Gothic.”

According to the American Gothic House Center website, www.ameriangothichouse.net, the center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays and Mondays. The American Gothic House is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second Saturday of each month April through October.
