Celebrate summer with Americana flair at art walk

Jul 03, 2013

Celebrate summer with Americana flair during the Fairfield 1st Fridays Art Walk from 6-10 p.m. Friday on and around the Fairfield square.

The July art walk, “Celebrate Iowa: Party In the Park,” will emphasize art demonstrations, live music, artisan and food vendors, and it will focus on creative summer fun activities.

Old-fashioned games and competitions, such as a waterballoon toss and watermelon seed spitting contest, are planned from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Opening ceremonies and presentations are from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fairfield Mayor Ed Malloy is scheduled to speak and 2013 Fairfield High School graduate Forest Miller is slated to sing the national athem and “God Bless America.”

From 7:30-9:30 p.m., The Sidewinders from the Iowa Army National Guard’s 34th Army Band will be playing rock, blues and country giving a preview of their performance set for RAGBRAI’s July 26 overnight stop in Fairfield.

Danaher Oil is the event sponsor of the July art walk, and US Cellular is the media sponsor.
