The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will present “Inspire!,” a new holiday concert, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield — the final event of their 25th anniversary year.

The December program provides a delightful range of uplifting holiday songs, both sacred and secular — from the rich textures of Renaissance polyphony to traditional carols in unusual arrangements and just-published new works. Lilting lullabies, Caribbean and African rhythms, pulsing Glorias, celebrated folk tunes, and winter-wonderland fun share the stage with beautiful masterworks of reverence and joy from centuries past. From across history and around the world, this year’s program celebrate the many qualities of the holiday spirit.

“With the holidays fast approaching, the Chamber Singers are eager to inspire the community with this year’s musical offerings,” said Elaine Reding, musical director of the Chamber Singers. “The holiday season brings anticipation, introspection, hope, celebration, and joy — the dawning of new light and renewal for ourselves and the world. This beautiful program will help reawaken these unifying themes and the connection between heaven and earth that we celebrate in song.

“We’re also very excited about our guest instrumentalists for this concert, including our special trio Lise Marcell, Karen Aoki, and Donna Nelson, who will play a beautiful Bach cantata to complement the choral offerings,” said Reding.

Soon after their December concerts, the Chamber Singers will travel to New York to join other international choruses in the premiere of Kim André Arnesen’s Requiem Jan. 16 in Carnegie Hall.

For more information and to support the trip, visit GoFundMe.com/chamber-singers, or contact the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts ticket office at 472-2787 to make a tax-deductible Chamber Singers gift.

Humor, solemnity, devotion, and festive fun all have a share in the Chamber Singers’ December concerts, designed to inspire holiday spirits for a fulfilling season and a peaceful new year. The Chamber Singers warmly invite everyone to come enjoy these beautiful musical gems and to share in their message of goodwill to all, both now and throughout the year.
