Tree branches and limbs are dropped into a large machine to be composted at the Fairfield Compost Site. The city hired the huge piece of equipment to do the composting work. Fairfield residents can drop off yard waste, like brush, leaves and grass, at the compost site at the intersection of South 20th Street and West Jackson Avenue. Residents also can pick up free mulch at the site. Residents can load mulch themselves or call the city maintenance shed at 472-4750 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays to make an appointment for a city employee using a loader to load a pickup or truck. The city is not liable for damage that could occur during the loading.
