Congregate meals; Fairfield school meals

Congregate meals

Congregate meals are served at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center and at noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.

The menu for the coming week is:

Monday — creamed turkey, mashed potatoes, 5-Way Vegetables, blushing diced pears, biscuit.

Tuesday — Salisbury steak with gravy, O’Brien potatoes, roasted broccoli cuts, Dixie coleslaw, Strawberry Surprise.

Wednesday — baked chicken, parsley boiled new potatoes, green beans almondine, banana bread.

Thursday — roast pork loin, candied sweet potatoes, steamed cabbage, banana, oatmeal-raisin cookie.

Sept. 21 — cheesy potato-crusted fish fillet, oven-roasted red potatoes, creamed peas, mandarin orange.

Each meal also includes wheat dinner roll or bread, unless another bread item is noted, margarine and skim milk.

Reservations for meals are required one day in advance. At the Fairfield site, reservations can be made either at the senior center or by calling 472-4403. At the Lockridge site, reservations must be called in to 319-696-3450 by 6 p.m.

For people 60 years of age and older and their spouse of any age, there is a suggested contribution based on income range. Individuals younger than 60 pay the full meal price as posted at the meal site.

Bingo is scheduled to be played from 12:15-1:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Fairfield Senior Citizen Center.

Cards and other activities are planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Lockridge Senior Center.

School meals

The Fairfield Community School District has announced the menu for the coming week.

Elementary schools:

Monday — breakfast: breakfast bread. Lunch: cheese-filled breadsticks with marinara, green beans, peaches.

Tuesday — breakfast: filled crescent roll. Lunch: pancakes, sausage and egg patty, tri-tater, celery, Sidekick.

Wednesday — breakfast: yogurt and granola bites. Lunch: orange chicken, rice, steamed broccoli, baby carrots, mandarin oranges and pineapple.

Thursday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: beef and cheese soft taco, refried beans, salsa, fresh fruit.

Friday — breakfast: ultimate breakfast round. Lunch: crispy chicken patty on a bun, honey-glazed carrots, side salad, fresh fruit.

Milk, juice and fruit are served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. An alternate meal of a sack lunch is available by request in the school office daily.

Middle school:

Monday — breakfast: breakfast bread. Lunch: cheese-filled breadsticks with marinara or teriyaki chicken flatbread, green beans, peaches.

Tuesday — breakfast: filled crescent roll. Lunch: pancakes or biscuit, sausage and egg patty, tri-tater, celery, Sidekick.

Wednesday — breakfast: yogurt and granola bites. Lunch: orange chicken or egg roll, rice, steamed broccoli, baby carrots, mandarin oranges and pineapple.

Thursday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: beef and cheese soft taco or chicken fajita and cheese soft taco, refried beans, salsa, fresh fruit.

Friday — breakfast: ultimate breakfast round. Lunch: crispy chicken patty on a bun or pork tenderloin on a bun, honey-glazed carrots, side salad, fresh fruit.

Milk, juice and fruit are served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. A fresh garden bar, with fresh fruits and vegetables, is served daily with lunch. An alternate meal of a sack lunch is available by request in the school office daily.

High school:

Monday — breakfast: breakfast bun. Lunch: corn dog or cheese quesadilla, green beans, Trojan power pack.

Tuesday — breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: cheese, pepperoni or sausage pizza, peas, fancy pears.

Wednesday — breakfast: breakfast burrito. Lunch: pasta bar with lasagna roll with marinara sauce or mac and cheese, steamed broccoli, applesauce, garlic toast.

Thursday — breakfast: biscuit and gravy. Lunch: French dip or buffalo chicken sub, baked beans, peaches.

Friday — breakfast: Dutch waffle. Lunch: country-fried pork chop or crispy chicken drumstick, cheesy potatoes, mixed fruit, homemade roll.

Milk, juice, fruit and a choice of mini doughnuts, Pop Tarts, breakfast bar or breakfast bread are served with breakfast. Milk is served with lunch. Offered daily for lunch is a choice of: fruit and yogurt parfait with granola, sub sandwich, specialty salad, nachos-to-go or Uncrustable PBJ. A fresh garden bar, with romaine salad with a choice of dressings, fresh vegetables and fresh fruit, is available for lunch.
