Contestants sought for county fair queen contest

Contestants are wanted for the 2017 Jefferson County Fair queen contest.

The contest will be at 6:30 p.m. June 21, with the interview process to be held that afternoon.

Anyone interested in competing in the 2017 Jefferson County Fair queen contest, can pick up an application at the Jefferson County ISU Extension office or download and print an application from the fair website at http://jefferson.tyler-dingman.com.

When picking up an application, leave a name and phone number at the Extension office. If downloading an application, notify the organizers at one of the numbers listed below.

Applications are due at 4:30 p.m. June 9. The completed application, along with the “More About You” sheet, a photo, the sponsorship fee and one letter of recomendation must be turned into the Extension office.

Basic rules of the contest are:

• Each contestant must be female and at least 16 years of age and not more than 21 years of age on Aug. 1.

• Contestants must never have been married or have had children.

• She must reside in the county she represents or an adjoining county if the majority of her activities, like school, 4-H, church or work, are in the county she represents.

• Each contestant  must be an active member of at least one service organization in her community, such as a church group, Girl Scouts, 4-H, Ruritans and etc. Eligibility is not limited to 4-H membership.

• No professional models, who have had ongoing employment in which modeling was the primary part of the job, are eligible to compete.

• Contestant must be available to participate in the 2017 Iowa State Fair queen contest Aug. 8-12, representing the Jefferson County Fair if she were named Jefferson County Fair Queen.

• The Jefferson County Fair Board reserves the right to change and interpret the foregoing rules and regulations at any time as deemed expedient.

“The young lady we are in search of should be a well-rounded individual with her own voice and thoughts, who participates in activities not just for recreation, but to make a difference in her world and others around her,” said organizer Kourtney Heald. “She should participate in both her school and community to the best of her ability beyond that which is expected of her.  Overall, she should stand out from her peers and be a role model for those of all ages. “

Contestants must be available on:

• June 11 for the queen contest informational meeting at 6 p.m.

• June 20 for the Jefferson County Fair Parade at 6 p.m., a d a possible practice following the parade.

• June 21 for interviews from 1 p.m. to the end of queen contest.
