Council approves raise for city administrator

By Andy Hallman, Ledger news editor | Feb 28, 2017

The Fairfield City Council gave City Administrator Mike Harmon a 1.5 percent cost of living salary increase Monday, the same cost of living increase it gave to all city employees this year.

The city administrator is a contract employee, so changing their salary requires amending their contract. The administrator does not receive a cost of living increase automatically like other city employees.

Harmon’s salary before the cost of living increase was $95,444.96. The matter came before the council Monday because it was Harmon’s two-year performance review.

Councilor Michael Halley, chair of the personnel committee that reviewed Harmon’s performance, said Harmon had met or exceeded expectations in every category on which he was evaluated.

“He has worked hard to create a culture of cooperation among city employees,” Halley said.

Councilor Doug Flournoy said Harmon is “easy to work with and always on top of issues I ask him about.”
