Dave Leffler Quartet reunion concert at MUM

Jul 06, 2017

A Dave Leffler Quartet reunion concert is planned 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 13 in the Maharishi University of Management Argiro Dining Hall.

Jazz violinist Arlene Schar Leffler and trumpeter Fred Hucke are the guest artists for The Dave Leffler Quartet reunion performances. They will perform their favorite jazz renditions.

The public is invited to the free concert, but meal tickets for the organic vegetarian lunch at the M.U.M. dining hall concert are required to gain admission.

Shar Leffler teaches violin and performs with husband Dave Leffler in their jazz duo My Romance in Hellertown, Pennsylvania. The Lehigh Valley (Pennsylvania) Music Awards voted her Outstanding Stringed Instrument in 2009 and 2010 and has nominated her every year since 2007.

Hucke, who studied trumpet and fluegelhorn at the University of Northern Iowa, plays in the Fairfield All Stars Band. He performs often at the Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts and the Fairfield High School.

The Dave Leffler Quartet has been a popular Fairfield band since 2010, performing at FAIRfest, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, and the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. Band members are Dave Leffler on vocals, keyboard and guitar; Bill Vesely on flute; Tim Laughrin on bass guitar; and Steve Jeffries on drums and saxophone.

Vesely is a well known local flutist who has played with various bands in Fairfield. Laughrin and Jeffries are former members of the rock band Blue Cat Alley and also are familiar faces to the Fairfield music scene. Dave Leffler is a graduate of Maharishi University of Management, who as an instrumentalist, has performed worldwide with U.S. Air Force bands for nine years.

The Dave Leffler Quartet plays jazz in a traditional way, with pleasing, accessible melodies and harmonies.
