Dave Leffler Quartet reunion concert at MUM

Jul 12, 2018

Jazz violinist Arlene Schar Leffler, trumpeter Fred Hucke, guitarist Richard Hulley and vocalist Dorothy Drees are the guest artists for The Dave Leffler Quartet reunion performance 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 19 at the Argiro Dining Hall on the Maharishi University of Management campus.

The public is invited to the free concert, but meal tickets for the organic vegetarian lunch at the dining hall are required to gain admission.

The musicians will be performing their favorite jazz renditions.

East coast jazz violinist Arlene Leffler is an award-winning violinist who has been playing the American Songbook tunes she loves for over 30 years throughout the east coast, the midwest, and her most recent home in Austin Texas. She performs regularly in the jazz duo My Romance with her husband David Leffler, leader of the Dave Leffler Quartet.

Fred Hucke, who studied trumpet and flugelhorn at the University of Northern Iowa, plays in the Fairfield All Stars Band. He performs often at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center’s Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts and the Fairfield High School.

Richard Hulley plays guitar with the Classic Jazz Quartet and also with the band Rhakti with his vocalist wife Dorothy Drees. He and his wife also have a jazz duo where she plays the bass.

The Dave Leffler Quartet has been a popular Fairfield band since 2010, performing at FAIRfest, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, and the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. Band members are bandleader Dave Leffler on vocals, keyboard and guitar, Bill Vesely on flute, Tim Laughrin on bass guitar, and Steve Jeffries on drums and saxophone.

Vesely is a well known local flutist who has played with various bands in Fairfield. Laughrin and Jeffries are former members of the rock band Blue Cat Alley and are also familiar faces to the Fairfield music scene. Leffler is a graduate of M.U.M. who, as an instrumentalist, has performed worldwide with U.S. Air Force bands for nine years.
