Decorah wins Class 3A football title

CEDAR FALLS (AP) — Josey Jewell led Decorah’s power running game with 160 yards and three touchdowns and the Vikings beat Sioux City Heelan 49-21 Thursday night to win the Class 3A state championship.

Holt Johansen added two touchdowns for Decorah, while Jacob Kvale scored one and passed for one as the Vikings (14-0) won their first state title since 1989 and their fifth overall.

Heelan (12-2), which has won three titles, lost in the championship game for the eighth time.

Jewell, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound senior, carried 23 times, broke numerous tackles and rarely went down the first time he was hit.
