Dedication ceremony Saturday for Neff Wetlands donation

May 10, 2017

Neff Family Properties, which recently donated 36 acres of Neff Wetlands to the Jefferson County Conservation Board, is hosting a dedication ceremony on the property at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Jefferson County residents have been enjoying Neff Wetlands as part of the Fairfield Loop Trail, but recently longtime Fairfield residents Dave Neff and Sheri Blough Neff decided to ensure that those lands are enjoyed perpetually.

The donation passed through the hands of the Iowa National Heritage Foundation, which is a statewide nonprofit conservation organization that works with private landowners and public agencies to protect and restore Iowa’s land, water and wildlife.

The ceremony is open to the public.

“People can park in the parking lot at Park Street and Fillmore Avenue where you can get into Lamson Woods, and then walk across the bridge into the wetlands. That’s where the ceremony will be,” Neff said. “We’re just trying to encourage everybody to think about a gifting that will be forever enjoyed for years to come.”

The event is also ‘kid friendly,’ as Neff said naturalist Therese Cummiskey with Jefferson County Conservation would be giving a nature talk for children.
