Dementia workshop set

BURLINGTON -- The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting a full-day workshop on dementia April 4 at the Burlington Public Library.

The event is free to the general public, though certificates documenting four Continuing Education Hours will be offered to professionals for $15, payable at the event.

Sign-in is at 9 a.m., with the first presentation, 9:30-10:45 a.m., by seasoned local elder law attorney David Beckman who will discuss the legal and financial issues facing families coping with dementia.

The second session, 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., will be presented by Jerry Schroeder, senior program specialist with the Alzheimer’s Association. He will cover a basic overview of Alzheimer’s and dementia and how the illnesses are diagnosed and treated with an emphasis on what science now reveals about the best ways to prevent Alzheimer’s and related diseases.

The third session, 1:30-3 p.m., will be a panel of caregiver experts discussing strategies and methods of efficient and resilient caregiving. Time will be included for audience questions.

Lunch will be “on your own.” Attendees can bring a bag lunch.
