Deryl “Doug” “Mack” McDowell, 66, of Fairfield, died Friday, April 21, 2017, at his home.

The funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at SS Joseph & Cabrini Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, with the Rev. Nick Adam officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Behner Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Mr. McDowell was born Feb. 13, 1951, in Fairfield to Deryl and Elsie Thornburg McDowell. He married Amy Doyle Jan. 4, 1980.

Mr. McDowell graduated from Fairfield High School in 1969. He started working with his father at the age of 5 at Mack’s Body Shop; he owned and operated it from 1956-1995. In 1995, he started driving a truck – the last 15 years for Walmart.

His pastimes included fishing, riding and collecting motorcycles and cars. Most important was spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: wife, Amy of Fairfield; children, Jason (Amber) Craun and Jodi Bonnett both of Fairfield and Justin (Jessica) Craun of Brighton; seven grandchildren; siblings, Red McDowell of Ottumwa, Patricia Coffin of Keosauqua and Randy McDowell of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one sister Wilda Nelson.
