Des Moines River Water Trail programs set

Aug 02, 2017

Two Des Moines River Water Trail events are planned in August.

The first program is a stand-up paddleboard clinic set for Aug. 18. The first session is from 5-6 p.m., and the second session is 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Registered participants will meet at the beach at Lacey-Keosauqua State Park in Keosauqua. Each session will open with directions from a certified instructor with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, then participants will be able to put their skills to the test on the water.

The clinic is open to all, but children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

To register, call 641-919-6822 or email dmriverwatertrail@gmail.com.

The second program is “Tools of the Past” at 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at the beachhouse at Lacey-Keosauqua State Park.

Cherie E. Haury-Artz, an archaeology technician specialist, will describe various prehistoric technologies and have materials to examine so participants can experiment with how they were used.

Preregistration is not required.
