Dr. Gonzo – The Doc of Comedy Rock – is bringing his “Off Sabbatical Tour” to the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts featuring a hilarious combination of stand-up comedy and classic rock at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21.

His inventive rock ‘n’ roll musical parodies caught the attention of comedy fans across the nation as well as the ears of many musicians who invited him on tour with them. Dr. Gonzo has been seen and heard on Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central, The Bob & Tom Show, Entertainment Tonight, Star Search and has toured with such rock-n- roll acts as Huey Lewis and the News, Steve Miller Band, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Blue Oyster Cult, ZZ Top, Night Ranger and Joe Walsh.

Patrons owe it to themselves to come to the Sondheim and see this legendary performer who has inspired generations of comedians over the decades.

In the early 1990s, the good doctor quit touring to become an English professor at an Illinois college. Now, he is taking his dangling participle back on the road with a variety of classic favorites and brand new material.

Kicking off this great show is Nate Weatherup. Weatherup is a new, original voice coming out of the Chicago comedy scene. A former teacher, he has spent the last four years working comedy clubs and theaters throughout the country. On top of a busy tour schedule, Weatherup also competed in the finals of the 2011 World Series of Comedy in Las Vegas, and was invited to perform at the 2013 Great American Comedy Festival at the Johnny Carson Theater in Johnny’s hometown of Norfolk, Nebraska. He has opened for Dave Coulier, Jamie Kennedy and the Clean Guys of Comedy. Weatherup makes patrons take a long, hard look at education, culture and themselves with his sharp wit and unapologetic honesty.

Tickets for Dr. Gonzo – The Doc of Comedy Rock are $10 for general admission and are available at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center Ticket Office, 472-2787 or online at www.fairfieldacc.com.
